Descripción del puesto

El/la Field Service Engineer, Oftalmología es responsable de proporcionar servicio técnico especializado y soporte para equipos quirúrgicos oftalmológicos utilizados en procedimientos de cataratas, cirugía refractiva y enfermedades de la superficie ocular (OSD).

El puesto tiene su base en la zona de Barcelona, dando cobertura a zonas con una sólida base instalada de dispositivos médicos oftalmológicos, y requiere una proximidad estrecha a los clientes para garantizar un soporte técnico rápido y de alta calidad en entornos de quirófano.

Esta posición desempeña un papel clave en el mantenimiento del rendimiento óptimo de los equipos, en el soporte a cirujanos y personal clínico y en asegurar un alto nivel de satisfacción del cliente. Asimismo, el/la Field Service Engineer contribuye al desarrollo de relaciones a largo plazo con los clientes y al crecimiento del negocio de contratos y soluciones de servicio.

El puesto forma parte de la organización europea de Field Service, colaborando estrechamente con el/la Equipment Manager local, así como con los equipos de Ventas y Clínico, e incluye viajes ocasionales dentro de la región EMEA cuando sea necesario.

Responsabilidades

  • Proporcionar soporte técnico presencial de primer nivel para sistemas quirúrgicos oftalmológicos, atendiendo incidencias de clientes en hospitales, clínicas y centros de cirugía ambulatoria.

  • Realizar mantenimiento preventivo, controles de seguridad, diagnóstico de averías y reparaciones conforme a los requisitos legales, normativas MDR/MDD y políticas de servicio de J&J.

  • Entregar, instalar, poner en marcha, comisionar y validar equipamiento quirúrgico oftalmológico en entornos de quirófano.

  • Implementar actualizaciones obligatorias, mejoras de rendimiento y modificaciones en la base instalada oftalmológica.

  • Supervisar de forma proactiva el rendimiento de los sistemas e identificar posibles riesgos técnicos que puedan impactar en los procedimientos quirúrgicos.

  • Trabajar directamente con cirujanos, personal de enfermería y equipos de quirófano, asegurando la correcta disponibilidad de los equipos para cirugías oftalmológicas.

  • Actuar como punto de contacto técnico para cuentas clave de oftalmología dentro del territorio asignado.

  • Dar soporte en situaciones críticas a clientes fuera del territorio asignado cuando sea necesario, respetando la normativa local.

  • Recopilar y comunicar feedback de los clientes relacionado con el rendimiento de los equipos y su uso clínico.

  • Realizar todas las actividades conforme al Sistema de Gestión de Calidad de J&J y a los estándares regulatorios aplicables.

  • Mantener una documentación precisa de la base instalada, historial de servicio, archivos de dispositivos y seguimiento de garantías.

  • Gestionar activamente el proceso de gestión de reclamaciones, contribuyendo a la mejora continua de los productos.

  • Gestionar el inventario de repuestos, herramientas y equipos de prueba conforme a los estándares internos.

  • Apoyar de forma proactiva la promoción y venta de contratos de servicio, paquetes de servicio y actualizaciones en colaboración con los equipos de Ventas y Equipment Management.

  • Identificar oportunidades de ingresos adicionales en servicios a través de la interacción técnica con los clientes.

Requisitos:

  • Formación técnica: Grado Medio/Superior, Grado universitario o experiencia equivalente en electrónica médica, ingeniería biomédica, electrónica o electromecánica aplicada a dispositivos médicos o similar.

  • Mínimo 3 años de experiencia en servicio técnico de campo dentro de la industria de dispositivos médicos.

  • Se valorará especialmente la experiencia con equipamiento oftalmológico, quirúrgico o de quirófano, como: Sistemas de cirugía de cataratas o refractiva; Equipos diagnósticos o de imagen utilizados en entornos quirúrgicos

  • Experiencia trabajando en quirófanos hospitalarios altamente valorada.

  • Dominio del idioma local y buen nivel profesional de inglés, hablado y escrito.

  • Sólidas habilidades de trato con el cliente y capacidad para trabajar de forma autónoma en entornos clínicos.

  • Aproximadamente un 70 % de trabajo en campo.

Job Description

The Field Service Engineer, Ophthalmology is responsible for providing specialized technical service and support for ophthalmic surgical equipment used in cataract, refractive and Ocular Surface Disease (OSD) procedures.

The role is based in Barcelona area, covering areas with a strong installed base of ophthalmic medical devices, and requires close proximity to customers to ensure fast, high-quality technical support in operating room environments.

This position plays a key role in maintaining optimal equipment performance, supporting surgeons and clinical staff, and ensuring high customer satisfaction. In addition, the Field Service Engineer contributes to the development of long-term customer relationships and the growth of service contract and service solutions business.

The role operates within the European Field Service organization, working closely with the local Equipment Manager, Sales, and Clinical teams, with occasional travel within the EMEA region if required.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide first-line on-site technical support for ophthalmic surgical systems, addressing customer issues in hospitals, clinics, and ambulatory surgery centers.

  • Perform preventive maintenance, safety checks, troubleshooting and repairs in compliance with legal requirements, MDR/MDD regulations, and J&J service policies.

  • Deliver, install, commission, and validate ophthalmic surgical equipment in operating room settings.

  • Implement mandatory upgrades, performance improvements, and modifications across the ophthalmic installed base.

  • Closely monitor system performance and proactively identify potential technical risks impacting surgical procedures.

  • Work directly with surgeons, nurses, and OR staff, ensuring equipment readiness for ophthalmic surgeries.

  • Act as technical point of contact for key ophthalmology accounts in the assigned territory.

  • Support critical customer situations outside the assigned territory when required, respecting local regulations.

  • Collect and communicate customer feedback related to equipment performance and clinical usage.

  • Perform all activities in accordance with J&J Quality Management System and regulatory standards.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of installed base, service history, device files, and warranty tracking.

  • Actively manage and drive the complaint handling process, contributing to continuous product improvement.

  • Manage spare parts inventory, tools, and test equipment according to internal standards.

  • Proactively support the promotion and sale of service contracts, service packages, and upgrades in collaboration with Sales and Equipment Management.

  • Identify opportunities for incremental service revenue through technical expertise and customer interaction.

Requirements:

  • Associate degree, Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience in: Medical electronics, Biomedical engineering, Electronics or electromechanics applied to medical devices or similar

  • Minimum 3 years of field service experience in the medical device industry.

  • Strong preference for experience with ophthalmic, surgical, or OR-based medical equipment, such as: Cataract or refractive surgery systemsDiagnostic or imaging equipment used in surgical environments

  • Experience working in hospital operating rooms is highly desirable.

  • Fluency in local language and good professional level of English (spoken and written).

  • Strong customer-facing skills and ability to work autonomously in clinical environments.

  • Approximately 70% field-based work

The anticipated base pay range for this position is:

€34.700,00 - €55.430,00
