Job Description:

In Uppsala, we manufacture Healon, a market-leading product used to stabilize the eye in connection with eye surgery. Upon its launch in 1980, Healon paved the way for safe and quick eye surgery, whereby a patient’s cataracts can be replaced with new lenses in just a few minutes.

J&J MedTech is recruiting for a Facility Engineer reporting to the Manager FM Site Lead and to be based in Uppsala (Sweden)

Role summary

Responsible for ensuring safe, compliant and cost‑effective operation of facility systems with a focus on Facility Management Systems (FMS) and permit‑to‑work processes. The role combines hands‑on operational work, project leadership and coaching of the local FM team, and includes participation in an on‑call rotation.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in facility projects and improvement initiatives (technical upgrades, efficiency and safety projects).
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for FMS and work‑permit processes.
  • Coordinate and issue work permits with contractors and consultants; ensure cost control and quality throughout execution.
  • Monitor and manage the FMS (surveillance, alarms, configuration checks) and associated control systems.
  • Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance is planned, executed and documented; keep maintenance records accurate.
  • Maintain and update technical documentation and drawings.
  • Manage spare‑parts inventory and contribute to spare‑parts strategy.
  • Participate in budget planning for the facilities function and track expenditure against budget.
  • Conduct incident investigations, determine root causes, document findings and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Provide on‑call support as part of the facilities rotation.
  • Coach and support FM site teams on Compliance, Quality and EHS to drive harmonization and fulfilment of compliance programs.
  • Assist colleagues according to the competence matrix and business needs.

Requirements (must have)

• Technical education in facility management, electrical, automation, mechanical engineering or equivalent relevant education.

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in facilities work or similar roles (experience in life science engineering/related industries is a plus).

• Experience with computerized systems (e.g., CMMS) and managing control/automation systems.

• Demonstrated ability to lead projects and deliver change.

• Strong problem solving mindset and focus on continuous improvement.

• Comfortable with both operational (hands on) and administrative tasks.

• Good leadership and collaboration skills; able to work independently and in teams.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English.

Preferred (nice-to-have)

  • Formal fire safety training or certification.
  • Experience with permit‑to‑work systems and contractor management.
  • Previous experience as an SME for FMS or similar control systems.
  • Budgeting and spare‑parts planning experience.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is:

kr482 000,00 - kr776 250,00
