Imagine a career where everything you do is guided by a clearly defined set of values that everyone shares. Where being mission-focused, or committed to serving others, isn’t even remarkable because it’s simply SOP.
In fact, that’s how we operate every day at Johnson & Johnson, and it’s why so many military veterans who are transitioning back to civilian life decide to join our team. Take an inside look at our latest military-connected recruiting efforts, including four organizations we’re partnering with to support you on your career journey.
1.
Among the many benefits of our scale—we’re the world’s largest and most diversified healthcare products company—is that we’re able to offer exceptionally diverse career paths to members of the military-connected community. After all, when you team up with more than 130,000 colleagues, you’re bound to discover meaningful opportunities to leverage the skills you developed in your military career to make an impact globally—opportunities to innovate, collaborate and lead with purpose and integrity.
For these reasons and more, we’ve recently expanded our longstanding engagement with Hiring Our Heroes, an initiative launched through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation to connect the military community—service members, military spouses and veterans—with American businesses, create economic opportunities and support a stronger, more diverse workforce.
The organization helps veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses find employment opportunities with business partners, including Johnson & Johnson. On our end, we just think it’s a smart way to build relationships with inspiring veterans, share our mission and find future leaders to help us shape the future of health.
2.
We’re looking to recruit and hire veterans and military spouses across a wide range of functional areas, from supply chain operations to manufacturing, sales and marketing and more.
At the same time, we know that transitioning veterans may have some questions about the hiring process, such as:
- What’s the best way for me to highlight my military experience on my resume?
- How can I call out transferrable skills connected to my military experience? (We actually have a free tool that might help with this here.)
- I’m interested in continuing my education while I work. Does Johnson & Johnson offer tuition reimbursement? (Yes, we do!)
To help transitioning veterans get answers, we’ve teamed up with Heroes MAKE America, an initiative launched by The Manufacturing Institute with the goal of connecting the military community with opportunities in manufacturing. As part of our sponsorship, we’ve been hosting informational virtual hiring events, which are a great way for our recruiters to touch base with candidates, share helpful resources and answer questions.
As the “Official Healthcare Sponsor” of Heroes MAKE America, we’re incredibly excited by the talent that comes from their manufacturing-focused programming. Plus, you should know that a big part of the initiative is geared toward upskilling, which can be an important component of career-readiness training for the military-connected community. It’s also something you’ll see built into our culture when you join our team today.
3.
We celebrate America’s veterans at Johnson & Johnson, and for anyone transitioning back to the civilian workforce, we want to be there to support you every step of the way. So partnering with Hire Heroes USA, an organization committed to setting up service members, veterans and their spouses for success upon returning to the civilian workforce, was a no-brainer.
The rationale behind the organization is a simple one, but it’s something that often gets overlooked. Namely, successfully transitioning back to the civilian workforce from a military career requires support on multiple fronts, from career training to resume development, interview coaching, help with job referrals and more.
All of these are areas where Hire Heroes USA continues to step up to make transitioning a little bit easier. We’re just thrilled to be able to do our part.
4.
Not familiar with MedTechVets? It’s an organization specifically for transitioning service members and veterans who are pursuing career opportunities with companies in the pharmaceutical, medical device and life sciences industries.
To put it another way, MedTechVets specializes in providing networking and mentorship to individuals interested in roles at companies like ours. The organization helps support career transitions in a number of ways, including its signature “MedTechVets Academy,” a free all-virtual six-week training program that covers everything from personal branding to resume best practices, networking, interview prep and more.
But at the end of the day, MedTechVets is only able to do any of this great work because of its robust network of partners, and we’re proud to be a leader among them.
5.
Admittedly, this isn’t a “partnership” per se, but you should know that we’re actively hiring folks from the military-connected community right now.
What’s more, we extremely proud of our history of supporting military service members at Johnson & Johnson. This tradition, which dates back to at least the Spanish-American War in 1898, remains alive and well today.
Key differentiators for the military-connected community at Johnson & Johnson include:
- Being named a 2020 Military Times Best for Vets: Employer, a 2020 U.S. Veterans Magazine Top Veteran-Friendly Company and a 2021 Military Friendly® Employer
- Offering an award-winning Employee Resource Group for the military-connected community: the Johnson & Johnson Veterans Leadership Council
- Providing best-in-class employee benefits for National Guard and Reserve Component Service Members
